Tomatoes

The first of the tomato harvest.

I noted last year that the tomatoes really started ripening after I picked the first green ones off before a frost warning.  This year I started pinching off the suckers at the first of August.  Yesterday I picked the first green tomatoes, just one of the bigger tomatoes from each of the bigger plants.  I noticed I already have one tomato (still on the plant) that's starting to turn orange.

These will sit in the window on the plant stand and hopefully ripen slowly, while giving the plants the message to mature the tomatoes still out on the plants.

  1. That is an interesting concept--picking tomatoes to send a message to the plants. Those will be wonderful when they ripen.

  2. Yummy! You don't want to know how my harvesting is going. I have ran out of freezer space and it's just to darn hot to can them yet.

    2. Sure c'mon down..hehe ..looks like I'm going to have to can whether I want to or not. The big freezer is full, luckily John is not home to see his freezer super full and the girls are fighting me on filling the kitchen freezer..ice cream and popsicles seem to be more important to them. I think they have their priorities wrong lol
