I feed my meat birds greens too. They do love them, especially plantain. We're very lucky that the fox population is down this year. We actually had a rabbit in our yard the other day. I think that's a first.

I had plenty of garden space this year, I just didn't bother planting much with the late spring. I have two rows of beets which should reach an edible size before fall. Planting anything like that now would be a waste of time though. The buckwheat and clover are fairly fast growing, and good for the garden soil, so I don't mind tossing the seed out for them.

Yeah, I'll be even happier if I can get the hatch rate up a little higher. Mind you, 4 out of 6 of my eggs hatched this time, while 4 out of 12 of hers hatched. I think if I had more good eggs to start with I'd have much better results.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11557512606416161272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3023803000478958088.post-74079768494916452662013-08-03T07:35:00.970-04:002013-08-03T07:35:00.970-04:00Thanks.Thanks.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11557512606416161272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3023803000478958088.post-40337684988972507982013-08-02T19:06:04.720-04:002013-08-02T19:06:04.720-04:00I love to see how happy my two hens are when they ...I love to see how happy my two hens are when they can get out and forage. It gives me a real thrill. And, it makes me happy that you have happy to hear your hens are happy to get out in the green. I know you take greens to them, but mine much prefer to scratch and peck grass for themselves.

You could just throw those beet/mangel seeds just about anywhere, even out near woods or fences and bring them to the chickens without using up garden space. Of course, then the cows and deer would get them.

You must be glad to get the hang of selecting and incubating eggs.
